Farmer Fred's sheep are getting mighty woolly. He will pay you to shear them.

Part 1:
A Woolly Situation

Step 1
Talk to Fred.
Shear the sheep.
Get 20 wool.

Items needed: Shears.

Talk to Fred the Farmer between Lumbridge and Draynor Village and seek a quest from him. He will ask you to shear his sheep for him and bring back 20 balls of wool. You will find the sheep farm just next to his house. Zybez RuneScape Help's Image of a Sheep

Head over to the sheep pen and start shearing the sheep. To shear a sheep, simply left-click on the shears, then left click on a woolly sheep. Only woolly sheep have wool, of course - these are the ones that look puffier (Picture - Picture). Sheep who have already been sheared appear to be smaller and skinny. After successfully shearing one you will receive a piece of wool (Picture).

Some sheep will run away from you when you try and shear them, so just keep trying and you will finally get some wool. Repeat the process until you have 20 pieces of wool (Picture).

Step 2
Find a spinning wheel.
Spin the wool.
Return to Fred.

Items needed: 20 Pieces of Wool.

Now that you have 20 pieces of wool, head to a spinning wheel to spin them into balls of wool. At the moment, the closest spinning wheel is located in the Lumbridge Castle on the second floor. You should find a spinning wheel in the southern room.

Use a piece of wool on the wheel and select "Make-X". Type in 20 and press enter. The spinning wheel will show some nice animations (Picture) and will spin all of your wool.

Now that you have finished the task Fred has given you, go back to his farm. Fred will take the balls of wool you have made and reward you for your help.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: So what is the point of shearing a sheep besides doing it for Fred?

A: Shearing sheep and converting wool into balls of wool is one of the techniques in Crafting. When you make an amulet, you need a ball of wool to make a string for it, so it is useful after all.

Q: Do you get Crafting experience from spinning wool?

A: Yes, you get 2.5 experience points for each piece of wool converted. That explains why I got 200 experience points instead of 150. Since I converted 20 balls wool, I get an additional 50 crafting exp beforehand. Making the reward 200-50 = 150 XP, not 200.
